There's no question that Microsoft has carved a niche in the OS market with Windows 8. From its stunning user interface and lightning fast start-up, to the significantly improved touch responsiveness and cloud integration; it's an easy five-star from this guy. All this notwithstanding, there exists one particular feature hidden deep within the bowels of the evaluation versions of Windows 8 that can make even the most stable of system builders rock in a corner:
An evaluation copy can never be upgraded to a full retail version. No key changing; no upgrade-installation. You may now commence weeping...
The bottom line: If you currently use an evaluation version, and you finally have a license to install, start your backup process now, and prepare to hose the Evaluation version. Completely re-installing the OS is the only way to install the license.
